Sarasota, Florida, January 26, 2006– After a two-month set up and configuration, Umialik Insurance Company, a multiple line, property and casualty insurance company headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska, went live with Tropics workers’ compensation policy and claims systems.
A two-month software system set up is rare in the commercial insurance sector. Umialik President Mary Mastascusa attributed it to Tropics knowledgeable staff. Umialik also shipped their database server to Tropics’ headquarters in Sarasota, FL to reduce set up time further. Tropics installed the software and configured it to Umialik’s specifications in sunny Sarasota before going on site in Anchorage. Tropics Vice President of Software Engineering Stephen Massingale served as the project manager and said Umialik’s responsive staff aided in the quick implementation.

Lakeside Center at McCormick Place Chicago, IL, November 15-17 Booth #600 |
Tropics Software Technologies presence was clearly felt as a prominent force in the industry at the National Workers’ Comp & Disability Show on Nov. 15-17 in Chicago, IL. The large and eye-catching Tropics sponsor banner posing the question "Can your software do the work for you?" was displayed at the hall entry way. In connection with that, Tropics challenged the audience to win cash by stumping Tropics with automation scenarios that could not be handled in the Work Management Module of Tropics.
Tropics was also featured during the conference session “How to Buy a Claims Management System." The session demonstration highlighted Tropics work management and automation features and let conference attendees see the Tropics system in action. The session also drove traffic to the Tropics booth, which offered visitors the extended demonstration.
The Tropics team was pleased with the turnout and networking opportunities at the show. The conference attracted a variety of insurance carriers interested in Tropics software systems to ease workloads and boost productivity. Tropics Software Technologies President Mike Mobar added, "It is always good to meet other industry professionals committed to enhancing the workers' compensation industry."
Kirk B. Thompson of Freeman Administration Services in Texas was one of the insurance industry professionals who stopped by the Tropics booth. He walked away with more than just knowledge; he was the winner of the Tropics business card raffle. Kirk took home the latest edition of the apple video iPod!

Tropics Software Technologies took an active role at the IASA Business Conference in Anaheim, June 4 - 7. In addition to our exhibit booth, we were able to showcase our state-of-the-art technologies by participating at the Pre-Show Press Conference. Tropics Software Technologies co-presented along side Stonewood Insurance Company, a current client. The presentation focused on what makes Tropics a “best match” for our clients. By using Stonewood as a case-study, audience members learned about Tropics’ features such as work management, document management, and web-enabled policy, claims, and financial systems that make it the industry’s premier software. Tropics Software Technologies commitment to exceptional customer service and business efficiency were also presented.
In addition to participating with the IASA Press Conference, Tropics Software Technologies gave away some wonderful prizes for individuals who stopped by our booth and participated in our drawing. The two grand prizes were a Palm Pilot and a 17” Flat Screen Monitor.
We like to congratulate the individuals who won and thank them for stopping by! The next shows we will be attending are AASCIF in New Orleans and the FWCI Annual Conference in Orlando. Be sure to stop by the booth to find out about Tropics’ newest technologies and updates. Tropics showcased its latest advances in the integrated Work Management for the claims system at the RIMS conference in Philadelphia late April 2005. The dynamic nature and ease of setting up Work Management Teams and Work Management Trees (user-defined logic flow) was praised by many attendees who stopped by the Tropics booth and explored the features of the Tropics claims system.
Through this feature, Tropics demonstrated many otherwise manual tasks, such as creation of forms and documents, request for information, reminders, and other diary items which can be automated based on a user-defined logic flow. This powerful feature allows a client to instruct the system to fulfill one or more actions based on completion of another action.
User-defined conditions may be added to the flow to allow subsequent actions to be completed only if certain conditions are met. Basically, every data field in the claims database is available for testing and verifying a claim condition.
The above paradigm provides Tropics clients with one of the most powerful and efficiency-inducing tools in the market. For more information, please contact Tropics at TST Information.
